Privacy Policy
Milky Way Hunting ("the app") tells you when and where the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy are visible from your location. This policy explains what the app does with the information on your phone. It applies to the Android and iOS versions.
Location
When you tap Use my location, the app asks your phone for your position so it can compute the sky above you: the altitude and direction of the Milky Way core and Andromeda, sunset, darkness and moonrise times. The position is used on the device only. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and it is not kept once you close the app. You can instead choose a place from the built-in list, in which case the app never reads your location at all. You can withdraw the location permission at any time in your phone's settings.
Motion and compass sensors
The compass mode reads the phone's orientation sensors to show which way you are pointing the phone. These readings are used on the device while the compass mode is on and are not stored or sent anywhere.
What the app does not do
- No account or sign-in.
- No analytics, tracking, crash reporting or advertising.
- No network requests of its own: star catalogues and astronomy are built into the app.
- No cookies and no third-party data processors.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Location (precise) | Only for Use my location, as described above. Optional. |
| Motion (iPhone) | For the compass mode. Optional. |
The app store you installed from (Google Play, Huawei AppGallery or Apple's App Store) may process installation and update data under its own privacy policy; the app itself receives none of it.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes what it does with data, this page will be updated with a new effective date, and a note will appear in the app's release notes.
